Observers of the developments over the last 30 years in the areas of politics, science and culture in the west might wonder about the direction our society is moving.
Some 300 years ago the enlightenment developed the insights and the values which formed the pillars of the unmatched development in the western world up to the 21st century.
The three major ones of these values

- Reason (today mainly represented by science)
- Individual freedom and responsibility
- Equal rights
seem to lose influence in our society, however. It looks like a major part of the western world is growing tired of the principles which made it so successful and is striving towards a state as it was before these principles were put into place.
This blog aims at understanding what is happening, why it might be happening and where it might lead. Ideally it will, from the perspective of the enlightenment values, try to identify ideas, developments and activities which might help to keep them and thus the achievements of our western culture alive.
